Today is World Suicide Prevention Day

800,000 people die by suicide every year globally. Most, not all, but most of those people are experiencing mental health issues- depression and anxiety being the most common of those.

676 MILLION people are affected by mental health issues worldwide.

We live in a world of permanent connection- it would seem- the internet is always on isn’t it? We are all seemingly ‘connected’ to our phones and social media 24/7. There is a limitless amount of information available to us and so many ways to talk and communicate.

And yet despite everything we are still not talking about the things that matter the most. STILL, people are silently living with mental health issues and still people are taking their lives because they can’t cope with the pain any more.

It’s time we changed the conversation.

It’s time we started to talk openly with our friends, in our families, in our businesses, at work, at school, in our networking circles.

Mental Health issues affect us all at some point. Suicide will affect us all in some way.

Men’s Health magazine recently did a survey of 15,000 men. 56% of the respondents said they had considered suicide. 56%.

Please take a look at my recent blog post http://www.clairerussell.co.uk/news/ and look out for further updates today and beyond, on what we are going to be doing to be a part of changing things.

If you have been affected by suicide I am here if you need to talk. You can also contact the Samaritans 24/7 on 116 123 or jo@samaritans.co.uk.

With love xx
