Supporting You To Create A Mentally Healthy Workplace
(while taking the pressure off you AND aligning to government standards)
We believe that every individual has the right to good mental health and we believe in work places and working cultures where everyone can flourish.
We think that all businesses and organisations, regardless of size, should be able to access Mental Health First Aid training and Mental Health and Wellness Awareness Training and Support, so that they can support their people to have great mental health.
Creating an environment in which employees are supported to have good mental health is simply good business management. There is significant evidence that workplaces with positive cultures in mental well-being are more productive and more successful. Supporting good employee mental health and wellness is crucial to running a prosperous and sustainable organisation – and this has a ripple effect far beyond the walls of your business.

The Mental Health First Aid Subscription Programme
- Are you interested in improving the bottom-line results of your business?
- Are you a business owner or manager?
- Are you interested in improving mental health within your business?
- Would it make a difference to you if I could help you to nurture and attract and retain better talent?
- What if we could help to reduce absenteeism and presenteeism in your business?
- Are you simply interested in how you can have a positive impact on the culture around mental health where you work?
These are all things that we can help you to achieve simply by, addressing the mental health culture in your business and creating a more positive environment in which people feel able to ask for help, and supported to have good mental well-being.
We have created something especially for you to help you with all of these things. Normally, we only work with large organisations who have tens of thousands of pounds to invest in the training and development of their teams; and what we’ve noticed is there isn’t really a solution for smaller businesses who really want to create a positive environment in which employees feel able to ask for help and are supported to have good mental health. The only option is standalone training which doesn’t really offer any kind of follow up support.
One of our core values at Mental Health in Business Ltd is about making mental health support accessible to everybody, to all organisations, no matter what size. We are not interested in working with businesses for whom mental health is a box-ticking exercise - it's really important to us that the clients we work with are really invested in making a difference within their business and for the individuals that work for them.
So, with that in mind we’ve created a very special affordable solution that also works with you and your business over the course of a year to deliver a real change to the culture around mental health in your business.
I'm really excited about sharing this new proposition with you for a number of reasons. Mental health first aid training will become a legal requirement in the not-too-distant future and if you know my personal story then you will know that this is something that's really close to my heart. We're passionate about what we do, everybody within this business is really passionate about what we do and about making a difference in mental health. As a business owner myself and having run businesses for such a long time I know the challenges that businesses face what we've created is one of a kind; this isn't available anywhere else. The program that we're going to make available to you is exclusive to our business so without further ado let me tell you what it is that we've created…
We've created a mental health training and support subscription service. This is a membership program and as part of that service you will get a place for one person in your business on the accredited Mental Health First Aid Training and you will get ongoing support for that person for the next 12 months.
At the bottom of this page you'll see that there are three different levels of subscription service. You can choose which level of subscription service is appropriate for your business depending on your business needs.
Our next intake starts in the new year and we're only taking on new members until 31st January 2020 and I'd love you to join us. If you already know this is for you, just click the link, choose your membership level and book online. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email or connect with me on Facebook.
Benefit To Your Business
Better Employee Engagement
Businesses with healthy, resilient, motivated and focused employees perform better. All employees need to feel that their employer treats its people well and lives its values. Organisations that foster a positive culture of mental health and support their staff when they need it, reap the benefits in terms of commitment and loyalty because integrity and trust are universal key drivers of engagement.
Lower Levels of sickness absence
Mental ill health is the leading cause of sickness absence in the UK – 70 million working days lost every year. People with mental health issues are generally able to work and provide a valuable contribution to their employers’ businesses. 86% of people in a recent survey considered that their work was important or very important in protecting and maintaining their mental health. By eradicating stigma and raising awareness and understanding in our businesses we can support employees to remain at work where this is appropriate and to return to work more quickly after a period of sickness
Less presenteeism
Mental health issues are very common in the work place - 61% of employees have experienced a mental health issue due to work or where work was a contributing factor
although they are often hidden because of fear of the consequences, so presenteeism is at an all-time high – and very costly to businesses in lost productivity.
The 2017/18 Mind Workplace Wellbeing Index reports that mental health still does not have equal status with physical health. 59 per cent of employees who have experienced a mental health problem would always go to work with poor mental health, even if they knew they would benefit from time off. Only 27 per cent would always go to work if they were experiencing poor physical health.
A more positive culture of mental health in any organisation will result in employees feeling better supported to get the help they need, when they need it and to recover fully.
Attracting, Nurturing and Retaining talent.
For most businesses, their employees are their most valuable asset.
Attracting talent is a time-old challenge for many businesses. Nurturing it and retaining it not only reduces business costs – it is also fundamental to a stable workforce and a sustainable business.
Mental health is a key asset for people, for society and for businesses/organisations. Protecting, nurturing and improving mental health and resilience is vital for business success, for productivity and importantly, for attracting and retaining talent.
Improved business results
People who live with mental health problems contribute around £226 billion to the UK economy - that is 12.1% of total GDP. This is nine times more than the cost of mental health problems to the economy – approximately £25 billion.
Better employee engagement, lower levels of sickness absence and less presenteeism will result in LESS COST and MORE productivity in our businesses.
Who is this for? What kind of business will this help?
Our membership subscription service is for micro businesses and SME’s where presently, employees are far less likely to be provided with some mental health training, than in many large organisations – just 14% of small businesses and 11% of micro businesses.
We are not restricted by business sector or type – we work with and can add value in businesses of all types. Our team has considerable business leadership experience in a number of business sectors so we understand that challenges faced by our clients.
Why is this so important for your business and your workforce?
If real change is going to take place, SMEs must accept that they have a duty of care to support their employees’ mental health and wellbeing.
The health of the UK workforce is in decline – and mental ill health is the leading cause of sickness absence. A shocking 70 million working days are lost every year, due to mental ill health.
The 2018 ‘Mental Health at Work’ report shows that 61% of employees have experienced mental health problems because of their work or where work was a related factor, and one person in three has a diagnosed mental health issue. Presenteeism, when individuals go to work when they are unwell, is at its’ highest recorded level, due to rises in commonly experienced mental health issues including anxiety and depression.
Mental health is still regarded as a taboo subject at work. The 2018 ‘Mental Health at Work’ report found that only 16% of employees feel able to seek support from their manager or HR team with mental health issues; and 11% said that after they had disclosed a mental health issue they were subjected to disciplinary procedures, demotion or dismissal.
It is also vitally important to look at the £225 billion per year that is added to the economy by those people who are at work and have (or have had) mental health problems – this figure represents 12.1% of the UK’s total GDP. For many of those people, not only do they make a valuable contribution to the organisations that they work in – them being supported to do this is vital to their on-going wellbeing.
Your Commitment &
Our Promise!
With each of our membership levels we ask that you commit to a 12 month programme with us… Why? Because it is one of our core values and part of our mission to make a real, lasting and tangible change to you and your business and we have designed our programmes with that in mind. That requires a commitment.
In return – and with your full engagement, we promise to deliver demonstrable value. You will not only embed a more positive culture of mental health in your business, in which your employees’ mental wellness becomes a top priority; you will also see a direct and positive impact on your business results.
What people are saying about the Mental Health First Aid Training:

“We recently had a number of our team undertake Mental Health First Aid training. This was delivered over two days in our office by Claire and Steve from Mental Health In Business Ltd (MHIB). Claire and Steve took their time to present the content calmly and clearly and demonstrated empathy with the participants when discussing individual experiences. Time was taken to ensure the content was being understood, with numerous practical exercises used to embed the learning. Claire and Steve also shared their own personal experiences, adding more colour to the content. Mental Health First Aid training is an important part of building a corporate wellness culture and I would thoroughly recommend MHIB to anyone looking for an MHFA trainer.”

“Tackling a subject such as mental health and wellbeing in the workplace requires a lot of thought, and the first aid training is something we initially approached with trepidation as we had clear objectives of how we wanted this to be embraced by our people. We knew straight away that the team delivering the training would be key, and after speaking to MHIB, we were sure that there was nobody else better placed to deliver for us.
Claire’s energetic yet compassionate stance on the subject matter allowed delegates to open up, share their personal experiences and leave with the knowledge and skills to be able to support others in making a difference. The content is delivered in an inspiring yet insightful way, with the aim of being relevant and relatable to everyday situations that may occur in the workplace. The two days were made up of the perfect balance of interactive group sessions, videos and theory and we wouldn’t hesitate to ask the MHIB to provide further training.”
A matter of days prior to seeing Claire’s post about possibly doing this course, I was on a train back from a meeting in London. A young woman got on and sat opposite me. Nothing unusual there. Except that the young woman was upset. And I don’t mean “my boyfriend is late texting me” upset. I mean I could feel her pain. So I sat there with my cheeks filling with words that I could have or should have said, my lips staying firmly sealed. I simply didn’t know what to say or how to say something to someone very visibly in the middle of a crisis. The young woman got off the train a couple of stops later and I’ll never know if she became a statistic. Now, having done the course, I feel confident that should this situation present itself again, with a work colleague, a friend or someone who looks like they would welcome a friendly voice, I will know what to say and how to say it. Not only is the content of this course impressively informative, the way it is taught by Claire, in an engaging, inclusive and sensitive manner, it is memorable. This course is a ‘must do’ for anyone who works with other people or manages other people
This was a very intense two-day course, dealing with difficult subjects, which could have been very off-putting if delivered by the wrong person. However, Claire’s light touch and positive attitude kept it interesting and stimulating throughout. I have a number of health issues which could have meant me losing enthusiasm late on the afternoon of the first day, but that was never likely here. Claire kept it stimulating by putting regular breakout sessions into the schedule, also ensuring that the breakout sessions did not always involve the same people talking to each other for two days. I really felt as if I learned something useful here and am definitely interested in enhancing those skills going forward. An excellent course and an excellent tutor
I thoroughly enjoyed attending the MHFA Adult Training with Claire Russell. She was confident and knowledgeable about the information presented and handled discussions within the training with sensitivity and compassion. Although I have a background in mental health with a good grounding of mental health disorders, I came away feeling more empowered to help anyone I might come into contact with in my day-to-day professional and personal life. I highly recommend MHFA training with Claire.
I couldn’t recommend this course and Claire Russell/MHIB more. It is by far the best course I’ve ever had the pleasure of taking, the perfect mix of presented information and group activity. Every small and large business alike should send staff on this.
